Traditions Attire

Well, I just bought my dress for Traditions!!! OH MY GOSH, you guys I am so psyched! I just cannot believe how close I am! AHHHHH!!!! Sorry, I just had to get that out of my system. So anyways, yay for new clothes for Disney! And here is the lovely dress in all its glory...

Disney Email!

So yesterday a lot of people, including myself, got and email from Disney that gave a broad explanation of housing costs and roommate matching. So this year instead of using roommate matching online, they said that you will find or meet (if you have not already found a roommate) on your check-in day. This doesn't really affect me because I have already found all of my lovely suitemates and roommate! However, if you are one of the people who want to be surprised or just don't want to look for someone before you get down there, then this could be an issue. A lot of people without roommates are worried because they don't want to have twice as many items as they need (i.e. 2 tv's, 2 toasters, 2 coffee machines), and won't be able to get to know their roommate beforehand. So if you want to know your roommate and coordinate with them before check-in date, I would highly reccomend searching for someone on Facebook or Tumblr. Search anywhere you may think there are roommates available!!!
Another item on the email was when you can arrive. Disney says, "please do not plan on arriving prior to 7am as you will be turned away". If previous years are any indication then security will not turn you away if you arrive befor 7 a.m. HOWEVER, Disney has a new security company and Spring 2013 will be their first check-in so it is somewhat iffy on whether or not they will allow you to wait before 7 a.m. So I guess we'll have to wait and see what they do on the first arrival date.
Finally, what is probably the most important item of this email is, drum roll please.... Housing Prices!!!! Disney has given a pretty broad idea of what housing prices will be this coming semester. But here is what they have sent.

Chatham Square
1BR - 4BR
$91 - $101
The Commons
1BR - 4BR
$93 - $105
Patterson Court
1BR - 3BR
$91 - $101
Vista Way
2BR - 3BR
$86 - $96
These are weekly rates, and the higher the rate the fewer the bedrooms. The prices for this term have gone up. This is most likely because minimum wage has been raised from $7.67 to $7.79. Yay for a $.12 pay raise!!!! Just kidding.... Anyways, with this raise in prices, a lot of people have begun to consider switching their preference to Vista Way (which is great for me, the less competition the better!). And because all the DCP kids needed some new info and rumors to cling onto, several people are wondering if Disney will now allow us to live in the Commons. Ever since the Commons opened they have been strictly for International College Program students. However, the ICP kids apparently have a different website for all of their information, so everyone is wondering why those prices are on our website. So people are speculating on whether or not Disney is opening The Commons to all DCP's or if it is still strictly closed off to ICP's, like it always has been. Now let me just make it clear. At the moment everyone is welcome to visit The Commons! You just cannot live in them unless you are an ICP.
So I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens on check-in day and go from there! I've only got 39 days you guys! So excited :D

Most Common Questions/Comments about the DCP

Alright, so I have told several people that I know that I am participating in the Disney College Program. And I usually get the same questions and/or comments from them. So I thought I would share those questions/comments and my answers to them.

Q: Awesome! What character will you be?
A: I will actually be working an attraction. So I won't be a character I'll be working one of the rides! But I'm so excited to be doing that :)
*A lot of people immediately think that I will be character. Which I have no issues with. I just wish people understood that an extremely limited amount of people who work at Disney do anything with entertainment.

Q: So you're going to be going to the parks and will have no school for 5 months? Sounds like the life...
A: Actually I'll be working at the parks during the majority of my time down there. And I'll be taking a class down there as well. But I will hopefully have some time to spend in the park, and hang out with some friends!
*I personally hate this comment. Some people unfortunately believe that I will be down in Florida to screw around for 5 months. But this is an internship, I am the bottom of the food chain and will be working constantly. Sadly some people don't understand that; but it's okay because I know what I will really be doing!

Q: So are you, like, getting paid to do this?
A: Yes.

Q: OMG!!!!! You are going to Disneyland?!?!?! How much fun will that be?!?! DON'T YOU JUST LOVE DISNEYLAND AND CALIFORNIA!!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!
A: I'm glad you're so excited for me! Thanks :) But I'll actually be going to Walt Disney World, in Florida. It'll be really great though :)
*I hate correcting people when they say Disneyland. So I usually won't correct them, unless they go into detail about the parks, California, the rides, etc.

Q: Wow that sounds like fun! How did you apply? What is the DCP?
A: Yeah, I think it'll be great! I applied through the DCP website (click here). Basically it is a semester long internship at either the Disneyland or Walt Disney World Resort. You work for the Disney company in their parks or resorts and can possibly get internship credit through your school for doing this!

Begin rant:

This is important, I really want to make sure people understand this. This internship is a job. You will be constantly working. So if you just want to hop on the bandwagon and get free park admission, meet new people, and make some fantastic memories, that's great! But don't apply or accept this opportunity if you aren't willing to work for the extra's. College program kids are the low of the low. Some people go as far to say that we are Disney's slaves. We have minimal pay and work long hours. Expect it and accept it, and you should be fine.

End Rant!!!

If any of you have questions about the DCP, Disney, or whatever please ask!
